Hayley Westenra and Miyazaki

I absolutely love Westenra's voice.  As a singer, and novice musician and song writer, I have to credit her on inspiration for my latest style of songwriting - especially since I consider them successful works of art.

This song is from the Japanese movie "Spirited Away".  I love Miyazaki's movies - but when I saw this one, I was young enough to be absolutely terrified. I still love it though.  Probably the best of his works is "Kiki's Delivery Service" and I recommend it even for those who aren't attracted to this style.  It is a very good family movie.  My brother's favorite is 'Castle in the Sky' because of the military and guns.  I'm not sure I can pick a favorite myself.

Anyway, enjoy my friends and tell me what you think!

(This trailer doesn't even show Rin!  Offended!!! ...jk)

Waking Rose

I LOVE THIS BOOK.

I love all the books, understand, in this series and this one was the perfect ending.  Fish is, like, the prince of my dreams - hurt and lost, but, in the end, desperately in love with me.  Can anyone else relate to this?

The writing was good, the characters were good, the plot was good, the morals were good, the ending true, and the book lovable.

Definitely should not be read unless you're familiar with world evils and would not be too disturbed by them to enjoy the book.  Slight use of swearing, but, in this book, it fits in so smoothly you hardly notice.

I finished this book in a day and a half and, yes, I cried.  I couldn't decide if I cried because it was a sweet romantic ending, if out of misery, or because it was after eleven at night.

In the end, I decided not to decide.

Dragon's Heart

This book was written by Amanda Kathryn Kenney and is good as preteen novels go.  Here is a "commercial" (website coming soon!):

Plus a bonus:
Have you heard the infamously annoying song 'Friday' by Rebecca Black?  Well, you might like this song then - I think it is amazing:
lol!

Wuthering Heights

Yikes!  Freaky story.  Seriously freaky.  http://juvenilepalaver.forumotion.net/ is doing a book club study on it, but man, where to begin???  This is a book of a different color and, believe me, I have no idea how to review it.

It's a rather pessimistic story, and all told by a servant who related it to the "narrator", or the "writer" Mr. Lockwood.  At the end, I'm stuck looking back for a hero or some feeling of satisfaction, but I can find none.  In the end, things are set to rights, but at what cost?  And was it worth it?  Was the ending really satisfactory?  The reader goes through the lives of several characters and when all is said and done, the story is about Heathcliff, but, to the reader's disappointment, life never looks up for him.  Even at his happiest, his happiness falls short of real happiness and the reader is left hanging, waiting for him to really be happy.  On the one hand, the story was about cruel reality; on the other hand, it's repulsively pessimistic.

The writing style, literary techniques, and faithfulness to character are compelling but, like many others, I'm stuck wondering - ................????

Any thoughts?
